UkrYAT became a member of the European Nuclear Society

The Ukrainian Nuclear Society became a full member of the European Nuclear Society (ESS). The decision to this effect was unanimously adopted during the electronic voting of the General Assembly of the SNF in May of this year. According to the result of the discussion, the Ukrainian Nuclear Society was granted 10 seats in the General Assembly of the SNF – the highest governing body of the European Nuclear Society.

It should be noted that at the beginning of 2019, the Ukrainian Nuclear Society received an invitation from the SNF General Assembly to join the European Nuclear Society. In Europe, the active activities carried out by UkrYAT in our country, as well as abroad, were highly appreciated. This invitation was actively discussed by the members of the UkrYAT board at their meeting in March 2019. As the next step in the development of international cooperation, approval was given for the invitation to join the SNF and further establishment of cooperation with the nuclear societies of European countries.

The European Nuclear Society is the largest society in Europe, uniting experts in the field of nuclear science, research and industry. More than 23 national nuclear societies and 60 corporate members, which unite scientists, engineers and specialists in nuclear power and industry, including leading European companies in the nuclear industry, including Westinghouse, Urenco, Orano, EDF, Nukem, etc.

The history of relations between the Ukrainian Nuclear Society and the European Nuclear Society began in 2004, when members of UkrYAT took part in the international conference “PIME-2004” (Barcelona). In December 2018, at the invitation of the SNF,a delegation of the Ukrainian Nuclear Society visited the General Assembly of the European Nuclear Societyon the occasion of the 24th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP24). Among the topics discussed by the participants of the assembly were issues of expanding cooperation with national operators of nuclear power plants, the need to intensify research in the nuclear field, as well as the implementation of joint information and educational projects aimed at popularizing nuclear energy as a safe, efficient and low-carbon source of energy.
